trek.

for those of you who know lynn, already know that it is very rare for him to take naps or sleep in late. he is tired. in the last 2 weeks, i have seen him take 2 naps including the one i caught him taking this afternoon in the office. since it doesn't happen very often, i thought i'd take a picture to make it last longer.

why is he so tired? he just came back from trek yesterday. the poor guy has been working his tail off for the last 12+ months planning trek***. lynn (who is our stake young men's president), his counselors, the stake young women's presidency and several others have been planning every detail of this event. there's a lot that goes into the planning including being medically prepared, food/water, clothes (everyone dresses in pioneer attire), organizing everyone into "families" and then assigning volunteers to be ma's and pa's to these groups, transportation, tents/supplies, firesides, speaking assignments,...the list goes on and on.

you can imagine the difficulties the leaders ran into: injuries, multiple busses breaking down on the way home, volunteers dropping out, budgeting, pleasing everyone, etc. i would just like to say that amidst all the difficulties, all the great leaders trudged through and pulled off a successful trek for the youth of our stake. I'm very proud of lynn. he's a wonderful leader with great talent and i'm glad he can put those talents to good use by serving heavenly father.

***what is trek?
pioneer heritage is important to members of my religion. trek for lds people is the ultimate in stake/ward summer activities. it is an event usually designed for the youth of the stake to re-enact the same events that happened as the pioneers traversed the plains to get to utah. hundreds of youth and leaders are involved in trek. the re-enactment usually includes walking the same mormon pioneer trail (several miles of it anyway), wearing the same attire, pulling hand carts, etc. the outcome is tremendous with many individuals walking away from the trek experience with a better understanding of what our pioneer ancestors went through and a stronger testimony of god's hands in our lives.

I hear it was a success, so Lynn's lack of sleep was worth it. Yea for our stake youth leaders!

You deserve to know that Lynn was totally awesome up there on Trek! I loved giving him a hard time and he shot right back for example this is a conversation Merrill and I had with Lynn. "so lynn do you know when Merrill and I are singing our song" L: "you guys are singing at this next stop in 10 min" C:"Are you serious" L: "Im serious" M: "I don't believe you" L: "Yes I'm serious" M: "Show us your schedule" so he did and he was right! What a great guy!
